Arlington's Recipe for Success
We've always said that Arlington has a cool factor that is unlike any other, and its mix of social and cultural capital have made it one of the most sought-after suburbs in Greater Boston. Average home sale prices are up, days on market and number of homes available are down, and everyone is looking for a slice of Arlington life.
Why is this, you ask?
One factor that is a natural facilitator of this kind of social capital is walkability. Walking down the street to get a morning cup of coffee at Kickstand Cafe instead of going to a drive-thru allows social interaction with friends, neighbors and even strangers. So does strolling down to Menotomy Grill or Common Ground where everybody knows your name a-la Cheers. Walkability fuels interactions which fuels trust which fuels reciprocity and community.
But walkability is only part of this dish. To use a marketing term, there is a certain 'stickiness' about Arlington. No, we're not talking about the seats on the 76 bus in the summertime.
