Arlington's Recipe for Success

Arlington's Recipe for Success

We've always said that Arlington has a cool factor that is unlike any other, and its mix of social and cultural capital have made it one of the most sought-after suburbs in Greater Boston. Average home sale prices are up, days on market and number of homes available are down, and everyone is looking for a slice of Arlington life.

Why is this, you ask?

One factor that is a natural facilitator of this kind of social capital is walkability. Walking down the street to get a morning cup of coffee at Kickstand Cafe instead of going to a drive-thru allows social interaction with friends, neighbors and even strangers. So does strolling down to Menotomy Grill or Common Ground where everybody knows your name a-la Cheers. Walkability fuels interactions which fuels trust which fuels reciprocity and community.

But walkability is only part of this dish. To use a marketing term, there is a certain 'stickiness' about Arlington. No, we're not talking about the seats on the 76 bus in the summertime. In marketing and website design, 'stickiness' is anything about a website that holds a visitors attention and encourages them to stay longer.

The stickiness of Arlington goes like this: when young working professionals move here from the city because it's more affordable yet still has that urban feel, they can stay to raise their families because of the good schools and kid-friendly amenities. Less turnover in a community = more ownership and participation. Come for the city-like vibe, stay for the family-like atmosphere.

Of course these are just a few of the reasons why Arlington has been a hotspot for so long, and for so many people. Just for fun, we whipped up our own home-made recipe for what makes Arlington a great place to live and call home (feel free to add your own ingredients).

In the meantime, if the idea buying or selling an Arlington home has been simmering, give us a call and we'll make sure you're cooking with gas.
