As we embrace the heart (or should we say the heat?) of summer, we are excited to share our team's top recommendations for making the most of the season. We have curated a list of the best places to visit, interesting people to meet, and fun activities to enjoy in Arlington, Greater Boston, and beyond this August.
Nature Calls: Let's Get Outside | Arlington Reservoir
Affectionately known as 'The Res,' this popular summer destination is a favorite among our team, particularly Mike Pallotta. Located on Lowell Street in Arlington Heights, the newly renovated Reservoir Beach features a brand-new bathhouse, filtered and chlorinated swimming and water play areas, and a host of amenities. Open to both residents and non-residents, The Res is the perfect spot for fun in the sun.
Summer Sweet Treat | Life's Short, Eat the Ice Cream
Kristen McKenna recommends cooling off this August with a visit to Kell's Kreme. Whether you're a fan of classic flavors or adventurous creations, Kell's Kreme on Revere Beach offers a sweet treat for everyone. In my opinion, they have the best soft serve ice cream options around. Enjoy a delicious scoop (or two), and not only satisfy your sweet tooth but also support a local business.
Catch a Concert 2024 | Medford Jazz Festival
This suggestion comes from Annie Kelly. The third annual Medford Jazz Festival expanded to three days and two venues this year. The festival will begin with a program at Arts Collaborative Medford, the new community arts center on Mystic Avenue. Admission is free, though donations to support the festival are gratefully accepted.
For the Foodie | Restaurant Week: Sogno
Mark Garbino recommends joining Sogno for Restaurant Week through August 17th. Enjoy a prix fixe menu featuring their favorites at exceptional value, alongside the regular menu. Located at 304 Cambridge Road on the Winchester line, Sogno offers an authentic Italian dining experience inspired by Ron Martignetti's Sunday family dinners. Enjoy a welcoming atmosphere and a tasting tour of Italy right in Woburn.
For the Thrill Seeker | Codzilla
Tracy Wallace recommends Codzilla as an absolute must-experience for thrill-seekers and adventure enthusiasts. The high-speed ride, complete with heart-pounding spins and turns, will have you screaming with excitement. The original soundtrack and storyline add an extra layer of fun to the adventure. Just remember to secure your belongings—this ride is as wild as they come!
Summer Movie Magic at Capitol Theatre & Somerville Theatre
Steve McKenna recommends beating the heat by catching a movie at the Capitol Theatre which is now officially solar powered! And they're celebrating with savings for you. This summer, tickets are only $7 on Tuesdays at the Capitol and Somerville Theatres. Members save even more with $5 Tuesday tickets at both locations.
